ORILLIA CHANNEL CATS SWIM CLUB

The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club competed at the Mallards Long Course Challenge held in Markham at the Pan Am Centre. Fourty-five swimmers from Bronze, Silver and Gold training groups were in attendance. Jakob Loewen, Zachary Moczkodan, Peyton Nie, Mathieu Rainville and Evan Wagner qualified for Long Course Regionals in various events. “The Regional times were adjusted slightly this year, which made them faster so these swimmers needed to make the new time in order to attend,” said Head Coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards. “We currently have 33 swimmers qualified for Long course Regionals which is in Sudbury June 1-3.” Grier Kershaw (17) made a second Provincial AA time in the 200 breaststroke. Seven long course club records were broken as well. Blythe Wieclawek (12) set new records in 100 freestyle (1:02.96) 50 backstroke (33.16) 50 breaststroke (40.16), Hayley French (13) set new times in the 50 butterfly (31.59), Chilyn Fenton (16) 1500 freestyle (19:45.08), Owen McCool (14) 50 breaststroke (35.74) and Grier Kershaw 1500 freestyle (18:52.86).
