Channel Cats swim to personal bests at recent provincial meets

Local swimmers competed at Ontario Youth-Junior long-course championship in Etobicoke and Winter Ontario Festivals short course in Markham

Five members of the Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed in two separate provincial competitions.

Indiana Abram, 15, Anna Holton, 16, Taryn Fenton, 17, and Evangeline Cooke, 16, competed in Ontario Youth-Junior long-course championships (OYJ) held in Etobicoke and Harrison Levene, 11, competed in Winter Ontario Festivals short course held in Markham.

OYJ is open to swimmers 13 and over who have achieved the youth junior standard in one or more events, and festivals is open to swimmers 13 and under who have reached the festival standard in one or more events.

All swimmers achieved some personal bests in time as well as race strategies.

Abram raced in the 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre butterfly and 100-metre freestyle, Holton raced in the 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre backstroke and 200-metre freestyle, Evangeline Cooke competed in 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre freestyle and 100-metre butterfly and Harrison Levene competed in the 50-metre freestyle.

Up next for the local club is the Ontario Swimming Championships in Toronto and the Collingwood High 5 Meet.
