Looking to add to a highly successful season, Cheer Sport Sharks Orillia recently competed at the Quest for the Southwest, Beast of the East, and Cheer Challenge Cup competitions, which took place from Feb. 25 to 26 at the Markham PanAM Centre.

The calibre of the competition was evident to both coaches and athletes as each team strived to command the floor and catch the crowd’s energy and enthusiasm. At the end of day one, the gym proudly celebrated with the following standings:

  • Teenie Bopper Sharks (U6 Tiny Novice) - outstanding performance
  • Bamboo Sharks (U 12 Allstar Lvl 1) - first place
  • Electro Sharks (U16 Allstar Lvl 1) - second place
  • Valley Sharks (U16 Allstar Lvl 2) - first place
  • Black Spotted (U 16 Allstar Lvl 3) - first place

Heading into day two, the gym continued to ride the wave of wins and to push their limits, each team bringing their best to the mat and putting on performances that had the crowds with them every step of the way! It was evident to their coaches and to their families that this day would only build on the previous standings, and they would not be disappointed as day two lauded:

  • Baby Blue Sharks (U8 Prep Lvl 1) - third place
  • Quick Fin Sharks (U12 Prep Lvl 1) - first place
  • Bamboo Sharks (U12 Allstar Lvl 1) - first place
  • Electro Sharks (U16 Allstar Lvl 1) - second place
  • Valley Sharks (U16 Allstar Lvl 2) - second place
  • Black Spotted Sharks (U16 Lvl 3) - first place

In addition to these awards, the Quick Fin Sharks and Bamboo Sharks were named Grand Champions in their divisions bringing home the hardware of the Cheer Challenge Cup!

What’s next for the Sharks?

Cheer Sport Sharks Orillia will be heading to Canadian Cheer Nationals in Niagara Falls from April 14 to 16. This will be their last competition before they head south of the border!

The Bamboo, Valley, and Black Spotted Sharks, each with an At Large Bid, will be competing at the All-Star World Championships in Orlando, Florida, in May. This will be the gym’s first year competing at the world’s level and will allow athletes an experience that will be unforgettable.

To help offset some of the cost for our athletes, the gym will be hosting a fundraising Glow in the Dark dance on March 25 for Grades 3-8 from 7 to 9 p.m. This fundraising dance will feature “DJ Handy” and offer a cash snack bar, including pizza, drinks and more. This is a fun opportunity for the community to come out, see our facility and support local athletes!

Additionally, the gym will be hosting tryouts for new and returning athletes in May no prior experience is required. Abiding by our gym philosophy, every athlete who tries out makes the team and will enjoy an unparalleled experience in our warm and supportive atmosphere.
