Colts set to march into second round against Battalion on Friday

Following Games 1 and 2 on Friday and Sunday in North Bay, series shifts back to Barrie for Games 3 and 4 next Tuesday and Thursday

The Barrie Colts will open their second-round playoff series against the Battalion on Friday night in North Bay.

After eliminating the Hamilton Bulldogs in dramatic fashion Monday night, the Barrie Colts will now turn their attention to the North Bay Battalion for round two of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs. 

The two teams will open their best-of-seven series on Friday, April 14 at North Bay Memorial Gardens in a 7 p.m. start, followed by Game 2 on Sunday, April 16 at 2 p.m.

The series shifts back to Barrie for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 20 at Sadlon Arena. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. both nights.

If necessary, Game 5 will be played Saturday, April 22 beginning at 7 p.m. in North Bay, followed by Game 6 on Monday, April 24 in Barrie at 7:30 p.m.

Should the series go the distance, Game 7 will be played the next night on Tuesday, April 25 at North Bay Memorial Gardens starting at 7 p.m.

The Colts defeated the Bulldogs, 4-2, in their first-round series on Monday night in Hamilton as Ethan Cardwell scored with left 9.9 seconds left in the clock for a 5-4 victory. 

The Battalion downed the Mississauga Steelheads, 4-2, in their opening-round series.

Colts captain Brandt Clarke leads the OHL in playoff scoring with five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in five games. Forward Evan Vierling is second on the team with one goal and nine assists in five games, while defenceman Braden Hache has two goals and six assists for eight points in six games. 

Leading the way offensively for North Bay are left-winger Matvey Petrov with 10 assists in six games and right-winger Kyle McDonald with seven goals and two assists, which puts them No. 8 and 9 overall in playoff scoring. McDonald's goal tally puts him in a tie for first in the OHL, while Barrie's Cardwell is just one back with six.

Battalion goalie Dom DiVincentiis is among the league leaders for goals-against average at 2.32 and a .938 save percentage, while Barrie's Anson Thornton has a .282 GAA and a .886 SV%.
