Those who are training at CrossFit Orillia are in good hands.

Head trainer Mike McConnell has received a designation held by only 35 others in Canada. McConnell received his Level 3 Certified CrossFit Trainer (CCFT) status after completing an exam.

“It’s been a long process to get here,” McConnell said.

He had to first complete Level 1, which earned him his training certificate, and Level 2, which essentially prepares people for Level 3. Still, while thousands of Canadians have completed Level 2, only 36 have achieved Level 3.

“It was a proud moment for me. I made that goal two years ago,” McConnell said.

According to the CrossFit website, “To attain this credential individuals must meet all eligibility requirements, pass the CCFT examination, and commit to a long-term standard of professional accountability. This includes completing continuing education which can be accomplished by taking CrossFit courses, approved third-party courses and more.”

“It’s allowing me to focus on furthering my education,” McConnell said of one of the main perks of Level 3 certification.

Having the designation should be good for business, too.

“People are becoming quite wise when choosing gyms. Seeing the level of coaching ability at a gym, for me, would be a big draw,” McConnell said.
