The Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School's senior boys' basketball team has earned the right to vie for a provincial championship.
Earlier this week, the squad lived up to its No. 1 ranking by winning the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) title over a talented team from Huntsville High School.
The visiting Flames earned a decisive 69-49 win in the GBSSA title game in a contest they led from start to finish.
James Hill-Kent led the Flames' balanced attack with 18 points, while Sam Bosco added 16, Aiden Russell-Moodie netted 13, Owen Dickie chipped in with 11 and Johnny D'Agnillo contributed eight points.
The win was especially impressive as Fogarty had to play the game in front of a packed gym of Huntsville fans cheering on their hometown Hoyas.
To get to the championship game, Fogarty beat fourth-seeded Bracebridge in the semi-finals, while Huntsville upset second-seeded Twin Lakes Secondary School of Orillia in their semi-final match.
The Flames earned a berth in the GBSSA event after capturing the regional Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County championship title with a thrilling 51-44 win over St. Joe's of Barrie.
Thanks to their GBSSA championship, the local squad, which compiled a 14-6 regular season record, has earned the right to compete at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OSFAA) provincial championship in Windsor from March 6-8.
