Things were chippy at times Saturday night as the Orillia Terriers battled Caledon in Jr. C action at Brian Orser Arena. The visitors prevailed, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

It’s been a tough weekend for the McLean & Dickey Orillia Terriers.

On Friday night, the second-place Alliston Hornets (9-2) stung the Terriers in a dominant 7-2 victory in their home barn.

The Terriers played much better Saturday night, but fell just short, dropping a hard-fought 3-2 decision to the visiting Caledon Golden Hawks at Brian Orser Arena.

The local Provincial Jr. C squad is playing at the Gill Street barn until repairs to a heat-exchanger are complete and the two ice surfaces return to their home arena: Orillia’s Rotary Place.

On Saturday night, a Caledon power-play goal just eight seconds into the third period proved to be the difference-maker in the narrow win in front of 101 fans at the Orser rink.

Caldeon scored the only goal of the first period. But just 92 seconds into the middle frame, Lucas Wessinger tallied his first of the season for the Terriers to knot the score.

But a late second-period Caledon goal, coupled with the early third-period goal, gave the visitors a 3-1 lead early in the final stanza.

Mason Beck scored his fourth of the season to bring the Terriers to within one and while the home squad poured it on late, they could not net the equalizer despite out-shooting their rivals 44-36.

Wade Monague took the loss between the pipes despite stopping 33 shots.

With the pair of weekend defeats, the Terriers’ record falls to 7-4, dropping them into fourth place in the North Carruthers Division.

The Terriers host Midland (1-8) Saturday night at Brian Orser Arena before heading to Caledon (2-10) for a Sunday matinee.

The local squad is then off until Nov. 19.
