Kings mine silver in season-opening tournament

Peewee squad starts year with strong performance in Newmarket

The Orillia peewee 1 Peterbilt Kings boys' field lacrosse team won a silver medal over the weekend at a season-opening tournament in Newmarket.

The Orillia peewee 1 Peterbilt Kings shone in Newmarket at the Conrad Rollings Memorial Tournament this past weekend.

In the first game, Orillia defeated Uxbridge by a score of 9-1. Orillia's offence was led by Hunter McLaughlin (3g), Brycen Murray (2g), Zeke Neely (1g, 1a), Jake Curran (1g, 1a), Carter McLaughlin (1g, 1a), Michael Murphy (1g), Bennett MacKey (2a), William Cousineau (1a), Devun Colebrook (1a), Evan Gliddon (1a), and Kai Patterson (1a). Chase Beiers earned the win in net.

In game 2, Orillia outscored Owen Sound, 11-2. Orillia's point getters were: H. McLaughlin (7g), Colebrook (1g, 3a), Hunter Coolbear (1g), Nate Fogarty (1g, 1a), C. McLaughlin (1g), Curran (4a), Max Schryer (2a), Gliddon (2a), Hunter Homles (1a), Neely (1a). Hunter Holmes was solid in net.

Against Milton, the Kings suffered their first loss of the season as they were defeated 6-1. The lone goal was scored by Curran.

With a 2-1 record in round robin play, the Kings earned a spot in the semi-finals.

In an early semi-final game on Sunday morning, the peewees took an early lead and did not look back and beat Centre Wellington 12-5. The offence was lead by H. McLaughlin (4g, 2a), Murray (2g, 1a), Curran (2g, 1a), Patterson (2g, 1a), Colebrook (1g, 3a), and Coolbear (1g, 1a). Holmes took the win in net.

This put Orillia in the gold-medal game. We once again were set to play the talented Milton team, however lost in the final 10-4. Point getters were H. McLaughlin (3g), Curran (1g), Murray (2a), Colebrook (2a), and C. McLaughlin (1a).

The Orillia Peewee 1 Peterbilt Kings next tournament is this weekend in Niagara on the Lake. Go Kings Go!
