The BMO Nesbitt Burns Orillia Lady Kings senior lacrosse team improved to 3-1 in Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse action over the weekend with a win and a loss.

The Lady Kings traveled to RIM Park in Waterloo and faced off against a very strong Six Nations squad and found themselves down 5-3 at the half in a hotly-contested opening match. Sarah Utting would score two goals in the half as well as Kyra Meredith adding her first of the season to pace the senior Lady Kings. Abbie England would score early in the second half to give Orillia some momentum and get them to a one-goal deficit, but Six Nations would build on to the lead in the second half eventually pulling away in the decisive 11-6 victory. Also scoring in the second half were Abbie England, with another marker, and Teresa Mayo rounding out the scoring for Orillia who were shorthanded with only two subs in the match.

In Orillia’s second game, the Lady Kings would face Owen Sound North Stars and Mikayla Kunkel’s star would continue to shine bright as she only surrendered a single goal in the convincing 14-1 win. Kiah Shanks would record a hat trick for the victors while two-goal efforts from Annie Lloyd, Hayley Rekker and Camille Vibert helped guide Kunkel and the Lady Kings to victory. Rounding out the balanced attack for Orillia would see Utting, Mayo, Kaitlyn Beech, Meredith and England add singles while Rachel Mochulla would play a pivotal role on the defensive side of the ball during the day as well.

Next action for the senior ladies will see them travel to Brampton next Sunday to face Mimico Mountaineers and the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves.
