The BMO Nesbitt Burns Orillia Lady Kings senior lacrosse team continues to roll in Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse action coming away from last weekend with a pair of convincing victories.

Orillia and Mimico Mountaineers would face off to start the day in Brampton with the Lady Kings roaring out to a 7-2 half-time lead. Kyra Meredith would score three goals in the first half while Kiah Shanks, Emily Arkell, Camille Vibert and Emily Van Kessel, who scored on a terrific transition play and pass from Kiah Shanks, would beat the Mountaineer netminder. Orillia would also control play in the second half and limit the Mountaineers to a single goal while scoring for the Lady Kings was Hayley Rekker, Meredith with her fourth of the game and Annie Lloyd to pull away in the 10-3 victory. Mikayla Kunkel would earn the win in net and would make some key saves when tested during the match to backstop a strong defensive effort anchored by Shannon O’Connor and Kennady Blunt.

Game 2 would see the Lady Kings face off against the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves in a rainy and wet affair. Emily Van Kessel’s strong play in net would backstop the team to a 8-3 victory. Orillia is fortunate as both Kunkel and Van Kessel have combined to have a very stingy 4.33 goals against average so far and credit also has to go to the overall emphasis towards defensive awareness the team is taking so far this season. Both Teresa Mayo and Shanks would pace the offensive output recording three goals each while Lloyd and Vibert would also round out the goal scoring stats as they now have a three-game wining streak to their credit. Rachel Mochulla and Kaitlyn Beech played well defensively grabbing several loose ball battles and helped the team to their 5-1 record in OWFL play after three weeks of action.

This weekend, the Lady Kings were scheduled to travel to Halton Hills as they faced off against defending champion Orangeville Northmen and Six Nations who sit in first place at this point of the season.
