Lawn bowlers celebrate Canada Day on the green (8 photos)

Club celebrated nation's birthday and 40 years at Commerce Road facility with a successful, fun tournament and barbecue

In spite of a rainy start, the Orillia Lawn Bowling Club celebrated Canada Day and 40 years at its Commerce Road site with a successful, fun tournament and barbecue. Fran Woodhurst Painting sponsored the tournament with Woodhurst teaming up with Paul Evans to win the B Flight.

Club president Shirley Healey welcomed several members from past years who were attending the event and thanked them for their contributions to the club.

A different bowling format was used by drawmaster Robb Barsevich, giving bowlers of all skill levels a chance at the prizes.

The top flight winners were the duo of Tony Cupani and Johnny Van Campen.

A fun “spider” event was won by Jean Trelford and Steve Millar.

The barbecue chef was Mike Richard and the luncheon, which included strawberry shortcake, was coordinated by his wife, Terry. Local businesses Foodland and Leadbetters donated food for the barbecue.

The next tournament takes place on July 15 and is sponsored by John Mayo of BMO.
