Local athletes kick up success at Scarborough karate tournament

Members of the Orillia Academy of Karate competed in a tournament in Scarborough on Saturday.

ORILLIA ACADEMY OF KARATE

The Orillia Academy of Karate travelled to Scarborough on June 24, 2023 for the 50th karate tournament of the Toronto Academy of Karate.

We had 14 students participating and came home with 26 awards, competing in kata (patterns) and kumite (sparring).

White belt

Michelle McLean — first place, kata

Stella Wright — tied for second, kata, and first place, kumite

Yellow belt

Mason Codlin — first place, kata, and first place, kumite

Joshua Olimer — second place, kata, and fourth place, kumite

Miroslav Stransky — third place, kumite

Green belt 

Kaylee Bourne — first place, kata, and third place, kumite

Logan Felthem — second place, kata, and first place, kumite

Blue belt 

David Rehm — fourth place, kata, and third place, kumite

Purple belt

Riley Masnica — first place, kata, and first place, kumite

Carl-Douglas Kingsbury — second place, kata, and third place, kumite

Brown belt

Kyra Felgner — first place, kata, and first place, kumite

Tony Grimaldi — second place, kata, and second place, kumite

Black belt

Theresa Felgner — second place, kata, and third place, kumite

Jack Shell — fourth place, kata, and fourth place, kumite

“Congratulations to all my students for their great showing at the tournament and for their hard work in every class. Keep up the good work and train hard,” said Gerry Ramsay, chief instructor of the Orillia Academy of Karate.
