Local rowers impress at Welland regattas

Next up for Orillia Rowing Club members is Row Ontario Championships

Members of the Orillia Rowing Club competed in two regattas in Welland recently.

Results from the July 3 Welland CORA Regatta:

  • Molly Hazel placed second in the 2,000-metre U17 LTW women’s singles
  • Elias Fiddick placed second in the 2,000-metre U17 LTW men’s singles
  • Laila Castel Philips and Molly Hazel placed second in the 2,000-metre U17 LTW women’s doubles
  • Rebecca Bouwhuis placed second in the 2,000-metre senior women’s singles
  • Cedar Wink placed fourth in the 2,000-metre U19 singles 
  • Barb Pidgen and Jane Bonsteel placed second in the 1,000-metre masters E+ women’s doubles

Results from the July 10 Row Ontario Masters Regatta:

  • Rebecca Bouwhuis finished fourth in the women’s singles race, narrowly missing third by two seconds
  • Bob Wink and Brad Ingleton finished second in the men’s doubles

This was the first regatta for most of the youth rowers. Coach Anne Hodkin was pleased with the performance of the rowers, who have been training five mornings a week between 6 and 8 a.m.

The Row Ontario Championships in Welland on July 23 and 24 are next up on the summer racing circuit.

Meghan Rogers has earned a spot on Team Alberta for the Canada Summer Games in rowing. She will compete in the women’s LTW doubles. Rogers previously trained with the Orillia Rowing Club and she trained in Orillia in preparation for her tryout this season.
