ORILLIA CHANNEL CATS SWIM CLUB

The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently participated in two meets.
First was the Barrie Aquafest where 29 swimmers from bronze, silver and gold training groups were in attendance, along with clubs from Barrie, Peterborough, Pickering, Hanover, Uxbridge, Markham and Caledon. This meet offered preliminaries and finals for the top 16-13 and over swimmers in each event, as well as timed finals for swimmers aged 12 and under.
The local club achieved numerous personal best times over the weekend, as well as demonstrated perseverance and resiliency. Blythe Wieclawek, 17, broke the short course club records in 50 butterfly (27.74), 50 backstroke (29.67), and 50 breaststroke (33.93).
Swimmers in attendance included: Hayden Nie, Alex Baillie, Evangeline Cooke, Anna Holton, Kael Cresanto, Zoe Baker, Kaitlyn Burden, Indiana Abram, Olivia LePage, Boyd Brown, Fedor Redvieskii, Nadine Ackert, Olivia Favaro, Maelle Mooney, Sophia Brown, Jackson Denne, Maelle bouchard, Taryn Fenton, Kaitlyn Allin, Sam Pecorella, Sylvia Bondy, Reid Wolf-Hambsch, Grace Hunter, Katie Heckendorn, Adair Wieclawek and Blythe Wieclewek.
A week later, Orillia hosted a development meet at the Orillia Recreation Centre. Clubs from Peterborough, Muskoka and Collingwood were in attendance. Fourty-five swimmers from jr. novice, sr. novice and bronze participated in the half-day competition. There were many swimmers who attended their very first competition and didn’t let their nerves get in the way.
