The Mariposa Wrestling Club ended the season on a high note.

They won the Canada East Wrestling Festival bantam boys and girls titles.

The team travelled to Fredericton, N.B., with 10 athletes for the two-day event. Their hard work throughout the season paid as they won eight gold medals and two silvers.

“It has been a long season with many ups and downs. The rebuilding of a strong team has been a challenge after all the time lost with COVID. In spite of the challenges, the youth group stepped up and performed to their top potential,” said coach Bob Parsons.

Silver-medal winners were Matthew Hancock and Cara Dunbar. The golds were collected by Sinead Davidson, Lainey Smith, Leah Hancock, Nicholas Christie, Erica Cleaveley, Daniel Hancock, Levi Smith and Cohen Sweet.

Jeff Hancock, the junior coach for Mariposa, was extremely proud of all the athletes and how they performed. He knows he will be hoping for a lot of new recruits as half of this team will be moving up to the  high school division.
