The Scotiabank Orillia Terriers minor midget hockey team finished up its season undefeated and laced up against the TNT Tornados in the first round of Ontario Minor Hockey Association action recently.

The Terriers came out strong against a very physical TNT team. Early power plays given to the Terriers helped amass an early 4-0 lead in the first period on goals from Owenn Banks, Sam Trumble, Kaiden Robitaille and Ty Snelleman.

The teams would trade killing off penalties for much of the second period, where Orillia was able to get a goal from Jace Gilbert.

In the third period, Orillia buried another four goals from Banks, Trumble, Snelleman and Andrew Thorn. TNT managed to slip one past goalie Kamden McIvor in the 9-1 victory. Assists in the contest went to Jhett Winkel (4), Robitaille (3), Trumble (2), Owen Palaro, Snelleman, Gilbert, Carter Barnard, Brock Jeffels, Thorn and Whyatt Winkel.

Due to inclement weather, the Terriers skipped their travel game and hosted TNT again for the second game. Orillia scored a few minutes into the game as Robitaille and Thorn set up Connor Flannery for his first of the series. J. Winkel scored on the power play a few minutes later, giving the Terriers a two-goal lead, assisted by Trumble.

The second period saw both teams fill the penalty box, which continued into the third period. Orillia started out killing two five-on-three player advantages on key stops from Colby Small. Small made several stops down the stretch, allowing the Terriers to score another two in the third period on goals from Jeffels and Banks. Assists went to Trumble, J. Winkel and Jeffels. Small recorded the 4-0 shutout victory.

Orillia traveled to Alliston for Game 3 against the Tornados. Robitaille started off the scoring for the Terriers in the first on assists from Quinn McConnell and Flannery. Jeffels scored on a power play to give the Terriers a two-goal lead on assists from Trumble and Banks. Flannery topped off the first period scoring from Robitaille.

The teams again found themselves in penalty trouble in the second period. Orillia's McIvor made several key saves to hold down the shutout in the second. Early in the third, Sam Trumble scored twice on the power play and Jeffels scored a few minutes later to give the squad a 6-0 lead. Assists went to Banks (2), J. Winkel, W. Winkel and Trumble. McIvor's shutout downed the TNT team and finished the series in three.

Orillia will battle the Barrie Blue Colts in the next round, with Game 1 going Wednesday at 8:50 p.m. at Rotary Place.
