Minor midgets edge Barrie to cap undefeated regular season

Local squad, which compiled a stellar 24-0-2 record, will now face TNT in the first round of the playoffs

The Orillia Scotiabank minor midget Terriers defeated Barrie 2-1 to complete an undefeated regular season, putting a stranglehold on the first seed throughout the playoffs.

The last test of the season came against second-place Barrie and, after a bad bounce first goal allowed Barrie to open the scoring, Orillia countered back with Whyatt Winkel scoring on the power play with a feed from Sam Trumble.

Orillia tallied again in the second period when Jonah Teahen slammed home a goal-mouth scramble goal, with an assist going to Brock Jeffels. Orillia took the 2-1 lead into the third period where their defence and superb goaltending from Kamden McIver closed out the 2-1 win.

The win completes a season where the Terriers had 24 wins and 2 ties with zero losses and a commanding 50 points.

The local team will now host TNT in the first round of the playoffs in a best-of-five series.

The team's rookie head coach, Chris Marinakos, beamed with pride at the group following their achievement, but emphasized that the playoffs is a whole new season and stressed that regular season success does not guarantee anything in the playoffs.
