Narrow victory kicks off night of ladies hockey

Tier 2 was the first to hit the ice at 5 p.m. on Sunday night and it could have gone either way in this close contest. Sunshine Superwash/Shanks ENJO squeaked out the 1-0 win over Nutrafarms Inc./Kutting Edge Promotions. Nicole Shanks scored a lucky goal with help from Gail Naccarato and pick-up player Jill Garrod. The shutout went to goaltender Natasha McDonald, sponsored by Harvey Watt RE/MAX.

Game 2 saw Home Hardware defeat Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change/Investors Group with a 3-1 win. Carol Walker scored the only unassisted goal for Pennzoil/Investors Group. The Home Hardware goals were netted by Amy Angus with two and Sarah Taher with a single. Assists went to Lee Wassell, Lisa Marin and Jen Woolhouse.

In the final Tier 2 game, Jen Hill Construction/Lake Country Animal Hospital led the way with a 3-1 win over Bremner Orthopaedic. Goal scorers for the winning team were Jill Garrod, Hannah Esptein and Erin MacCormack. Assists went to Karen Berends, Anne Epstein, Anne Dockendorff and Joy-Anne Russell. The single for Bremner was compliments of Pam Dooley, assisted by Jen Page and Anita Raikes.

The Tier 1 games started off with Geneva Event Centre handily taking the win over Lake St. George Golf Club 3-0. Goals went to Kenzie Cleaveley (1,1), Kiki Miller and Janice Godin, assisted by Kate Forbes, Heather Simpson, Shannon Green and Deanne Hibbert. The only Tier 1 shutout went to Seanne Goodfellow, a Harvey Watt RE/MAX goalie.

Erin K. Watson Law defeated Ledgers Orillia in a 2-1 win with goals for the winners going to Kate Rheault and Megan Hendry (1,1), assisted by Lisa Paquette and Kim Banks. The Ledger single was netted by Kara Hawkins, assisted by Adrienne Robinson and Brianna Robertson.

In the final game of the night, Giant Tiger led the way with a 4-2 win against Kelsey's Roadhouse. Two Giant Tiger goals went to Sarah Crowther, while Katie Price and Mikayla Rae got one goal apiece. Assists went to Morgan Hubley, Cayla Reimer, Jane Brasher, Amy Duchemin and Amy Trumble. The two Kelsey's goals were compliments of Megan Allore, with assists going to Charlotte Belliveau, Denise Lynch Lacroix and Vanessa Graham to end another great night of ladies' hockey in Orillia.
