Some members of the Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed in the Barrie Trojan Pentathlon Meet.

Swimmers could race in the Ironman pentathlon, which consisted of 200 butterfly, 800 freestyle, 1500 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 400 Individual Medley (100 metres of each stroke); the middle distance pentathlon: 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 200 Individual medley and the sprint pentathlon: 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 100 Individual medley.

Swimmers who competed in the Ironman included Indiana Abram, Flora Haslem and Hannah Kennedy.

Those who participated in the middle distance and sprint pentathlons included: Katie Heckendorn, Alexander Baillie, Alycia Golding, Adair Wieclawek, Tristan Sekleski, Jackson Denne, Evaneline Cooke, Owen Wagner, Holly McCool, Maelle Bouchard, Nathan McClinchey, Olivia Currie and Zach Moczkodan.

Coach Tatum Haslem was pleased with the swimmers ability to keep racing on short rest.

“There weren’t a lot of other clubs at this meet, and that meant there was less time to recover between events. The swimmers did a great job accepting that challenge,” says Haslem.
