The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently had swimmers compete at Ontario Long Course Youth Junior Championships held at the Markham Pan Am Centre.

Over 800 swimmers from across Ontario who made a qualifying standard were in attendance.

Blythe Wieclawek (13) led the way winning gold medals in the 50 freestyle (27.56), 100 freestyle (1:00.77) and 100 backstroke (1:08.30).

She also set new club records in all three events and qualified for Canadian Junior Championships in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Megan Widmer (17) finished 9th in the 50 meter freestyle just off her personal best time.

Grier Kershaw (18), Hughie Edwards (17) and Holly McCool (17) competed and just missed their personal bests in their events.

“I was pleased with our swimmers efforts, some were fighting a cold or just coming off racing at OFSAA so all considered they did well," said head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards. “We look forward to our next long course opportunity early April.”
