Orillia Channel Cats level up at Trojan Cup in Barrie

Four local swimmers qualify for provincial-level competitions

The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed in Barrie at the Trojan Cup.

Forty-five swimmers from the senior novice, bronze, silver and gold training groups were in attendance. Swimmers from all groups achieved many personal best times as well as personal goals.

Four swimmers qualified for upcoming provincial-level competitions. Jace Black, 10, and Harrison Levene, 12, qualified for Provincial Festivals, both in the 100-metre backstroke. Teammates Sam Pecorella, 13, qualified for Ontario Youth Junior Championships (OYJ) in the 200-metre backstroke, and Adair Wieclawek, 15, made the OYJ 50-metre freestyle standard.

“It is encouraging to have more swimmers making provincial-level competitions from different training groups,” says head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards. “Our club continues to grow from the grassroots level and up, and we are pleased with our results this past weekend.”

Swimmers in attendance include Margot Cameron, Harper McGill, Maelle Bouchard, Sam Pecorella, Olivia Favaro, Maya Favaro, Gabrielle Marques, Nadine Ackert, Ava Fairgrieve, Isabella Brown, Sophia Brown, Sophia Lee, Grace Hunter, Georgia Cameron, Adair Wieclawek, Harrison Levene, Anna Blauel, Nicolas Willis, Rydaar Watt, Riley Shore, Cheyenne Hawrysio, Jackson Denne, Evangeline Cooke, Emma Edgerton, Kaitlyn Allin, Sophie Shivers, Christopher Dorevich, Everett Dorevich, Kajun Butler, Maxwell Restemayer, Hayden Nie, Emony Fisher, Cohen Greer, Hartley Russell, Catherine Shaw, Harrison Sibley, Sierra Light, Kamryn Light, Mila Sekleski, Boyd Brown, Taryn Fenton, Zoe Leboeuf, Maelle Mooney, Jace Black and Caden Stuart.
