The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed in the Barrie Aquafest invitational.

Forty-three swimmers from the senior novice, bronze, silver and gold training groups participated. Ninety per cent of our swimmers achieved personal best times, which is a great start to the season.

This meet offered preliminary and final events for the 13-and-over age groups. The top 16 swimmers in each event and age group competed again in the evening to try to improve their results from the morning preliminary sessions.

“Our swimmers raced hard, focused on improving their turn speed and underwater work, which proved to really help them improve,” said head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.

Twelve-year-old Sophie Shivers qualified for Provincial Festivals in the 50-metre freestyle.

“Sophie raced hard all weekend, and I am proud of her efforts,” said her coach, Tatum Haslem.

Swimmers in attendance include Nadine Ackert, Nash Allen, Taryn Fenton, Hartley Russell, Emony Fisher, Rydaar Watt, Ayan Rau, Sophia Brown, Isabella Brown, Maelle Bouchard, Caden Stuart, Evie Cooke, Anna Blauel, Emma Edgerton, Harrison Levene, Riley Shore, Anna Holton, Fedor Radzievskii, Mila Sekleski, Grace Hunter, Dario Rotar, Jackson Denne, Kajun Butler, Brady Bell, Cohen Greer, Alexy Gorban, Niko Plett, Jace Black, Cheyenne Hawrysio, Nicolas Willis, Sam Pecorella, Adair Wieclawek, Katie Heckendorn, Georgia Cameron, Ava Fairgrieve, Maelle Mooney, Christopher Dorevish, Boyd Brown, Kael Cresanto, Gabrielle Marques, Catherine Shaw, Harrison Sibley and Sophie Shivers.
