Orillia Lady Kings open season with strong showing at KW tourney

All four of Orillia's rep girls' field lacrosse teams saw action in Kitchener-Waterloo and will be travelling to Owen Sound this weekend

All of the Orillia Lady Kings rep teams competed in their first tournament of the season last weekend in Kitchener Waterloo.  

On Saturday morning the Millwood Logistics U19 Lady Kings played their first game, defeating the Hamilton Bengals 6-4. Goal scorers for the Kings were: Hannah Rudge, Brooklyn Barker, Camryn Knee (2), Sophia Ceccanese, and Jadyn Maracle.  All the girls played hard and worked as a team for the win, coaches said.

The second game was against the St. Catharines Athletics 1. Orillia played hard, but lost 8-2. Goals were scored by Ceccanese and Maracle. 

In the afternoon, the Dan Parnell Royal LePage U15 Lady Kings defeated Orangeville 12-10. Rayne Noganosh paced the scoring attack with five goals, while Emersyn McLaughlin netted three goals. Evynn Stanford and Morgan Parnell chipped in with two each.   

In the second game against Kitchener-Waterloo the U15’s started slow and at the half it was 8-2 for the host team. The girls did not give up and made great offensive strides but came up short 12-9.

On Sunday morning, the Orillia Sports Medicine U13 Lady Kings faced Oshawa 2. In this hard-fought game the Lady Kings won 7-6. Leighton Mainer had a strong game and led the attack with two goals. Vivian Lauren, Rebekah Lacriox, Brielle Hodgkinson-Armstrong, Isla Quinn and Brooklyn Reed all added singles toward their win.

In the next game against the Newmarket Redbirds, the Lady Kings fell short with the 8-11 loss. Rebekah Lacriox led the way with a hat trick. Leighton Mainer and Brielle Hodgkinson-Armstrong netted two goals each and Chloe Crittenden added a single marker. Defensive leads were shown by Avery Saunders, Lauren Bomberry, Sadie Kuula and Lila Phillips.

In the afternoon, the Sweet Oven U13 Lady Kings started their season with games against the Halton Hills Bulldogs and the Oakville Lady Hawks. In the first contest, they suffered a 12-4 loss to Halton Hills. In that game, Kaelyn Drennan had a hat-trick for the Lady Kings, and Ryleigh McGuire had a single. 

The next game was an 8-3 defeat against the Oakville Hawks, which came out strong with a seven-goal outburst. Eiley Hayes found her groove in net for the second half and held the Lady Hawks to one goal. Scoring for the Lady Kings were Kaydence Thompson with two goals and one assist, and Olive-Marie Bomberry with one goal.  

All the teams travel to Owen Sound this weekend to face off against their opponents for the second weekend of the season.
