The Orillia Lakers U14 boys continued their hot start to the season with two more convincing wins this past weekend.

First, in a matchup of undefeated teams in Ontario Basketball League play, the Lakers never trailed and ran away with a 60-45 win over Hall of Fame.

In the second game of the weekend, the Lakers played Toronto Triple Threat, who are tied for first in the Coalition League. The Lakers played one of their most complete games of the season and won 60-38. The Lakers are now 4-0 in Ontario Basketball League play and increased their overall win streak to 10 games.

All of those wins have been critical for a team that has sights set on playing in the OBLX and eventually in the true provincial championship in April. The team hopes to be ranked in the top 14 overall in the province in February to be included in the OBLX. From there, the top 14 teams play for eight spots in the provincial championship.

So far the Lakers have made a solid case. They are 14-1 overall and have won by double digits in eight straight games. They are 7-1 and in second place in the highly competitive Hoop City Basketball League, but have several difficult matchups remaining, most against teams with similar aspirations.

To assist with preparations the team has added former Orillia Secondary School star Alexander Timpano to the coaching staff. The team has also been able to add weekly training with Peak Performance Fitness thanks the team sponsors, JL Construction, 125 Breakfast Club, Oscar’s Variety and Market, The Buck Group, IRP Industrial Rubber, and Master Lube. With all the support behind them the team will continue to train during the Christmas break and is back in action in January.
