The Orillia Lakers U15 boys returned home and won a mini-tournament this past weekend.

They first scored a relatively easy victory over IEM Newmarket. In the final game, the Lakers received a stiff challenge from East York. The Lakers ran out to a 35-21 lead at half and were able to maintain the lead throughout the second on the way to a 56-46 win.

The win boosted the team’s winning streak to four games after losing a tight game to the eventual champions at the Marquee Hoops/Made Hoops Mania event in Pennsylvania the previous weekend. The Lakers started the tournament with a 48-44 loss to the South Maryland Kings but followed up with two impressive wins.

Against the fast and skilled South Maryland team, the Lakers started slowly with early nervousness leading to a turnover-filled first half. In the second half, the Lakers were able to relax and play more confidently, alternating leads but ultimately falling just short, 48-44.

Having already been eliminated from championship contention, the Lakers finished strong. The team locked down defensively against Pennsylvania’s York Ballers in a 46-21 win. The Lakers closed out the weekend with their best performance against a solid Moore Brothers Elite Team from Pennsylvania. The Lakers applied constant full-court pressure to speed up their sharp-shooting opponents and came away with a 57-39 win.

The team’s travels are thanks to a generous group of sponsors including JL Construction, Rama First Nation, Flynn Group, Simcoe Development, Telford Property Management, and Cubic Feet Designs.
