Local rowers came away from the recent Ontario Indoor Rowing Championship with some success.

A number of local rowers enjoyed some recent success at the Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships, held in St. Catharines on March 4.

Molly Hazel finished in third place in the Junior High School Category with a time of 8:03.2 while Matthew Pecorella also placed third in the U13 Men 500m with a time of 1:56.6.

In the U15 Men's 500m, Justin Yao placed second in 1:51.2, Sam Pecorella finished fourth with a time of 1:53.8, and Andrew Burazin came in 10th with a time of 2:06.9.

In the U13/15 Women's 500m, Maelle Bouchard placed seventh in 2:02.3.

Elias Fiddick placed 18th in the Senior High School 150 Men category with a time of 7:39.3.

In the Women's U17 category, Emma Botari finished 11th in 7:44.5.

Coach Anne Hodkin was pleased with the results.

“I am sure if there was an efficiency award we may have got it," Hodkin said. "Most of our current athletes came out of the rowing camps last summer and have never raced in these situations before."

“This is a great start to our season as we have such a small club with no winter facilities; the support from the Orillia Rec Centre has been paramount to our success and the number of people who have joined the indoor rowing program at the centre because of the energy and excitement that it creates has been encouraging," Hodkin also said.
