The Wes Brennan Orillia Jr. Royals finished the regular season Sunday night with a 13-3 win over the Mansfield Cubs. The victory solidified a first round bye in the playoffs and completed a dominating 14-2 season for the local squad.
The Royals have significant team depth with all players contributing, but are led by the league leaders in pitching with Wyatt Thompson (8 wins) and Nolan MacNeal (6 wins) each pitching more than 40 innings this season, finishing one-two in most pitching statistical categories.
The Royals also have a powerhouse offence that scored an incredible 175 runs compared to only 63 given up. The offence is led by the three best batting averages
in the whole league in Owen Kaczowski (.538), Whyatt Winkel (.529) and Jhett Winkel (.519).
Defensively, the Royals have been led by their catcher, Ben Barzo, who leads the league in defensive assists constantly throwing out runners while catching fire late in the season and raising his batting average to .391.
Incredibly the Royals have 11 players all batting over .300.
The team will now await the winner of Barrie and Innisfil to find out their second-round opponent in the playoffs.
