Orillia Royals unveil championship banner, batter Barrie

Jr. Royals show they are a 'serious threat' to defend their title with 10-0 romp over Barrie in home opener at Jerry Udell diamond

The Wes Brennan Construction Orillia Junior Royals beat Barrie 10-0 in their home opener on Thursday night at the Jerry Udell diamond at Tudhope Park.

The Royals had their champions banner unveiled at a pre-game ceremony. The Royals immediately proceeded to show that they are serious threats to defend that title by dominating the visiting Baycats.

The Royals scored two runs in the first, five in the second, and three in the fifth with the game ending at that point due to the league's mercy rule.

Nolan MacNeal started the game on the mound for the home side and scattered three hits and three strikeouts en route to earning the win. James Pritchard pitched two scoreless innings of relief to capture the save.

Offensively, the Royals got hits from Owen Kaczanowski (3), Whyatt Winkel (3), Jhett Winkel (2), Will Timpano (2), Teddy McCollum-Kuntz, Andrew Brown and MacNeal.

The Royals next home game is Thursday, May 16 where they host the Orangeville Bengals.
