On June 11, Orillia Secondary School held their annual Athletic Banquet to celebrate their athletic achievements for the 2018-2019 season.

The event was attended by over 200 athletes, coaches, administration, and community members. It was an outstanding evening with many athletes recognized for their successes this past year.

The night featured a video montage of all the award winners, put together by Ben Wylie, and athletes received OSS athletic clothing for all team awards.

All attendees were treated to a delicious dinner catered by Theo's Eatery, followed by an amazing dessert table prepared by Kim Carter's Food class.

Highlights of the evening included the presentation of the OFSAA Sportsmanship award to the senior girls’ basketball team, as well as the presentation of the OSS Major athletic awards.

These awards recognize outstanding athletic performance, character, leadership, and grit. The award winners included:

  • Erin Moriarty, Garrett van Amelsvoort, and Eryn Babcock - OSS Athletic Performance Award
  • Nolan Felstead - Russ Jerome Football Award
  • Nicholas Stevenson - OSS Athletic Character Award
  • Sasha Bylow and Riley Sampson - OSS True Grit Award
  • Amy Hagman, Lauryn Buchan, Caleb Near, Olivia Karn, and Audrey Rieckenberg - Future Legends of OSS Award
  • Ryan Heim - Legends of OSS Award

The highest honour of the major awards was the Legends of OSS awarded this year to Ryan Heim. Ryan has represented Orillia Secondary School with incredible performances in basketball over the past four years, having led his team to numerous championships and OFSAA appearances. Ryan’s leadership, work ethic, and outstanding character make him a very deserving recipient of this prestigious award.

The event was televised live by our very own Nighthawks TV and garnered thousands of viewers throughout the broadcast. The Masters of Ceremony for the evening were Abby Clark and Spencer Coon who did an excellent job of co-ordinating the proceedings.

Both coaches and administration should be commended for all their hard work this past season, with a special thank you to all the staff and students who helped make the evening a resounding success.
