Orillia senior softball team batters Barrie, wins league crown

Local Simcoe-Muskoka League champs will now turn their attention to winning the season-ending tournament next week in Barrie

The Orillia National Nutrition senior softball team is once again Simcoe-Muskoka League champions after two close victories over their second-place rivals, Barrie Kage.

Orillia clinched the title in game one of the doubleheader with Brent Ziliotto driving a single to centre field with two out in the bottom of the final inning to score Randy Ley from second base.  

The game two win was a closely fought 17-14 victory with Barrie closing a wide gap in the final innings. For National Nutrition, Randy Ley was perfect at the plate in both games while Rob Milligan and Wayne Martin shared pitching duties in both games.

The Simcoe-Muskoka Senior Softball year-end league tournament will be held at the Barrie Sports Complex next week with the Orillia seniors vying to become both league and tournament champions for 2023.
