The West Orillia Sports Complex was the site of the second round of Summer Slam in Simcoe, the interclub competition between the Orillia Tennis Club and other area community clubs.

Orillia has been undefeated since the competitions began pre-COVID. This week, the team from the Bracebridge Tennis Club had other plans when they arrived Wednesday, July 26. Their goal was to avenge the sweep they suffered in June at the hands of your Orillia team.

Orillia changed up the team a bit, fielding Sal Shivakumar and John Kilby, Debbie Hele and Kate Switzer, Jennifer and Bill Langlois, and Hannah Clark and Linda Alm rounding out the team. The overall match was a nail biter as Orillia captured victories on courts 1 and 2 but fell in close battles on courts 3 and 4. The overall match would have to be decided through a tiebreaker process. In that process Orillia defended its undefeated crown in Summer Slam play by winning six total sets to Bracebridge’s four sets — a narrow victory but a victory nonetheless.

Bracebridge will bring another team to Orillia for the final instalment of the Summer Slam in Simcoe 2023 Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. Will your Orillia Tennis Club go into the off-season with a perfect 3-0 record in interclub play? We hope you will come out to watch exciting interclub play and cheer on your Orillia Tennis Club and see them in action.
