Blythe Wieclawek, 18, a member of the Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club, recently competed at the Speedo Canadian Swimming Championships held in Toronto.

All swimmers in attendance had to achieve the national qualifying standard in at least one event in order to attend.

Wieclawek competed in five events, placing top 15 in all events in the 18-and-over age category. Her results include 50-metre butterfly (fourth), 100-metre butterfly (fifth), 100-metre backstroke (eighth), 50-metre backstroke (13th) and 50-metre freestyle (16th).

Wieclawek is heading off to Harvard University in the fall, and will be studying in the pre-med program as well as competing for the varsity swim team in their sprint program.

“We wish nothing but continued success for Blythe as she embarks on her post-secondary education and swimming career. I am very proud of Blythe’s overall development as an athlete and person during her time with our club,” says head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.
