Orillia Tennis Club drops first match of season to Bracebridge

Bracebridge picked up three wins, while Orillia netted one

The Orillia Tennis Club (OTC) suffered its first defeat of the Summer Slam in Simcoe inter-club season, losing 3-1 to Bracebridge this week.

Court 1: The match was highly competitive with the score not matching the level of play. OTC’ Shelley and Dion played well but lost 6-2 and 6-4 to Ken and Jon.

Court 2: This turned into a marathon. All of the other matches were completed, while the match on Court 2 was only into the third game of the second set. When the match was finally over, Bracebridge’s Gary and Christy defeated Orillia’s Kate and John 7-6 and 6-4.

Court 3: The home side won this match in a close battle that went a full three sets to decide a winner. The husband-and-wife team of OTC’s Debbie and Nathan Hele defeated Sandy and Jim 7-5, 2-6 and 10-5 in a third-set tie breaker.

Court 4: One of OTC’s newest players made her debut playing at this level. Although the scores may not reflect it, this match was closely contested. In the end, Cathy and Don defeated OTC’s Hannah and Kevin 6-2 and 6-1.
