The Team Micks Orillia U18 Terriers lost in the semifinals of the home tournament this past weekend.

Orillia opened their tournament against the Glancaster Bombers at the MASK in Rama with a 4-1 win.

The Bombers scored 12 seconds in the game, putting the Terriers immediately on their heels. Early in the second period, Colsen Maracle tied the game on an assist from Zack Cipolla.

A couple of minutes later, the Bombers took a penalty and the Terriers made them pay — Maracle with his second of the game from Sam Reda and Thomas North. Wyndham Brownlee put the Terriers up by two shortly after on assists from Thomas Goard and Cal Murphy. Maracle completed the hat trick with a late-second-period power-play goal with assists going to Cipolla and Cohen Robitaille. Austin Serbinek backstopped the win.

In Game 2, the Terriers competed against the Nepean Raiders back at the MASK. Orillia’s Ethan Telford opened the scoring with a shot from the point. Assists went to Brownlee and Chase Beiers. A few minutes later, Cipolla set up Reda for the power-play goal, extending the lead to 2-0. Nepean narrowed the lead to 2-1, but then Maracle intercepted a pass and buried the puck to restore the two-goal lead. Maracle scored again in the second period, assisted by Reda and Robitaille. Nate Fogarty finished the scoring for the Terriers late in the second period unassisted. Ryker Jacobs goaltended in the 5-3 victory.

In the quarterfinals, the Terriers faced off against the Raiders once again. Bennett Mackey opened the scoring for the Terriers from Carter Balkwill and North. Chase Beiers scored his first of two for the night on the power play from Robitaille. Maracle potted his sixth of the tournament from Fogarty and Robitaille as the Terriers took a 3-1 lead into the final frame. Early in the third period, Goard sent Robitaille on a partial breakaway, who made no mistake, and Beiers scored in the open cage from Cipolla as the Terriers iced the win 5-2. Serbinek was in net for the win.

In the semifinals, Orillia took on the No. 1 provincially ranked Centre Wellington Fusion at Brian Orser Arena. After a scoreless opening frame, the Fusion scored two second-period goals. In the third period, Orillia’s Mackey scored from Robitaille and Balkwill, but it was not enough as the Terriers lost 2-1. Jacobs was in net for the loss.

The squad hits Collingwood next weekend to battle for the coveted Silver Stick title.
