The Orillia Wes Brennan Construction junior Royals completed a three-game sweep in the North Dufferin Baseball League (NDBL) championship Wednesday night, after scoring an emphatic 13-2 win over the defending league champs from Creemore.

Jhett Winkel led off the game in Creemore with a double, Teddy Mccolum-Kuntz walked and then Chase Brennan cashed in Winkel with an RBI single. Mccolum-Kuntz later scored on a brazen double steal to give the Royals an early 2-0 lead that set the tone for the game.

In the second inning, Whyatt Winkel doubled to cash in Owen Kaczanowski to increase the lead to 3-0.

The third inning saw Brennan hit a two-run home with Mccollum-Kuntz on base. Brennan then led off the fifth inning with a towering solo home run and later that inning, W. Winkel singled home Ben Barzo to stretch the lead to 7-1.

The sixth inning saw the Royals score four more runs when Nolan Ness Thomas, Kobe Geofroy, J.Winkel and Brennan all crossed the plate.

The seventh inning saw the Royals complete the offensive romp when Mccollum-Kuntz doubled home J. Winkel and W. Winkel.

On the mound, Kobe Geofroy started the game and pitched four strong innings, surrendering only one run while striking out four.

Max Rutherford closed out the win with three strong innings, giving up one run while striking out five to lock down the game.

Orillia has only made the league finals twice in the 40-year history of the league and this is the first time the Royals have captured the NDBL championship at the junior level.
