The Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School Flames strong season came to an end Friday, when they suffered a blowout loss to football powerhouse St. Joan of Arc in Barrie.
The St. Joan of Arc (JOA) Knights senior football team continues to steamroll its opponents, as the south-end Barrie school punched its ticket to the Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County (CSASC) championship game this afternoon with a 54-0 victory over Orillia'a Patrick Fogarty.
The game at Georgian College's J.C. Massie Field was as lopsided as the score indicates, with the Knights' defence crushing any attempt to gain yardage thrown at them by the Flames.
Add into the mix a dominant running game by JOA and you have a team that appears to be almost unstoppable.
One key player at the core of the Knights' running game was Konrad Cieplicki, who told BarrieToday he scored "three or four touchdowns" on the day, he wasn’t quite sure, after racking up a ton of yards.
“My whole line had a good game today and we moved the ball great,” he said after the win.
And the team’s defence “gave us the donut, a zero, as always,” Cielplicki added.
He believes their next game will be much of the same as they look to run the ball down field.
“We’ve got to be ready and play even harder,” Cielplicki said.
The first-place Knights entered Friday's game with a sparkling 5-0 record, while scoring 112 points and allowing on seven against.
Fogarty, with its 2-3 record, was coming into the game on a high note after defeating Barrie's St. Peter's Panthers, 7-6, on Tuesday in Orillia.
The JOA-Fogarty game was one of two CSASC semifinal match-ups on the schedule Friday. The Knights will play the winner between Barrie's St. Joseph's Jaguars and Midland's St. Theresa's Thunder. No score was available as of publication.
The CSASC championship game is set for Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Georgian College starting at 12:30 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) title game against the champions from the public board's Simcoe County Athletic Association (SCAA).
The GBSSA championship game for senior football is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m., at J.C. Massie Field.
