A big first period, a strong powerplay and solid goaltending helped the McLean & Dickey Orillia Terriers get back in the win column Saturday night.
In their first game since an 8-1 thrashing from Alliston on home ice last weekend, the Terriers rebounded with a strong 6-0 victory over the host Midland Flyers.
The visitors got off to a fast start, scoring four first-period goals. After a scoreless second, the Terriers tallied two more goals en route to the victory; two of their goals were scored while on the powerplay.
Orillia’s leading scorer Josh Brown, who was named the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s player of the month for October, sparked the offence with two goals.
Isaiah Philip continued his excellent start to the season with a pair of goals; he now has 10 on the season. Captain Broderick Black and Kaiden Robitaille also scored for the victors. Noah Mountain and Austin Holenski each had a pair of assists.
Netminder Wade Monague stopped all 27 shots he faced to record the shutout.
With the win, Orillia improved to 11-2 and are tied for first-place in the Carruthers Division with Stayner, which has played one fewer game than the Terriers.
The division’s top two teams will meet in Stayner Thursday night.
Orillia returns to home ice Saturday night when they host Schomberg in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Rotary Place.
