Terriers cap turnaround season with end-of-year awards banquet, team gathering

The 2018-19 season for the Orillia Terriers officially came to a close Sunday.

The local Jr. C hockey team, which plays in the Provincial Junior Hockey League, capped off their turnaround season with an awards banquet at Kelsey's.

Veteran Corey Miller, who was unable to attend the end-of-season event, was named the team's most valuable player.

Matthew Priest, acquired in a trade by the Terriers prior to the start of the season, was named the team's top defenceman. Priest tallied seven goals and added 33 assists from the back end. He was also named the defenceman of the year for the eight-team Carruthers Division.

Ayden Dooley won the team's Rookie of the Year award. The 16-year-old had a stellar season for the squad, notching 24 points in 40 games and scoring two of the team's biggest goals - game-winners against the Stayner Siskins.

Rookie Calan Tanzi-Foshay, who shone in his first season, scoring 10 goals and adding eight assists in his 46 games played, earned the most improved player award.

The awards were presented by team owner Jamie Clarke.
