The Hoop City Basketball League, which hosts many of the top basketball teams in Ontario, held its annual All-Star day this past Saturday. In the Grade 8 gold game, representing the top eight teams in the league, one team stood out with the most all-star selections: the Orillia Lakers with five.

Kelechi Nwokeke, Caden McFee, Takoda Plett, William LePage and Jayden Spezzano all represented the Lakers well.

In addition to the game, Nathan Litherland was chosen to represent the Lakers in the three-point shooting contest and his impressive performance with 10 makes in a minute fell just short of the semifinal round.

Legacy Adusei represented the Lakers in the skills competition and put up an excellent time but fell just short of advancing to the finals.

The U-14 Lakers have been sharpening skills by almost exclusively playing and scrimmaging older teams this month. This weekend they will play at the U15 level in the AAA bracket at the IEM Tournament in Newmarket.
