U10 Terriers skate to strong showing at early-bird tournament

Local squad went undefeated in the round-robin of event in Niagara Falls, before losing in semi-finals to strong Whitby team

The Julie Emery U10 Orillia Terriers travelled to Niagara Falls for the Garden City Early Bird tournament From Sept. 29 to Oct 2.

The Terriers had a strong showing, going undefeated in the four-game round robin portion of the event.

The Terriers defeated the Welland Tigers on Friday in their home rink 5-2. Goals were scored by Brett Ericson (2), Parker Lynch (2) and Callum LeBarr. Assists went to Oscar Tilley (2) Kyle Dickson, Tommy Skentzos, Spencer Collet and Oliver Mclean. Nash Butler had a strong defensive game to earn player-of-the-game honours.

Game 2 later on Friday saw the Terriers dominate the Caledon Hawks in a 9-2 victory . Goals were scored by Sentzos (3), Tilley (2), Lynch (2), Lebarr and Ericson, Assists were tallied by Rebekah Lacroix, Brooklyn Reed, Skentzos and Collet. Thomas Treumner played well in net for the win.

Game 3 early Saturday morning saw the Terriers get off to a slow start, trailing 3-0 after the first period to the eventual tournament champs, the Burlington Eagles. The Terriers fought back hard all game long and battled to a 5-5 tie. Goals were scored by Skentzos, LeBarr, Ericson, Tilley and Lynch. Assists Were tallied by Dickson, Lynch and Skentzos (2).

Game 4 was set as a must-win for the Terriers to advance and they answered the call in a big way with a 8-3 win over the Glancaster Bombers. The Terriers hard checking and superior goaltending by player of the game Heydon MacKaracher overwhelmed the Bombers. Goals were tallied by Owen Turner, Walker Cronan, Lebarr (3), Tilley and Skentzos. Assists were tallied by Turner, Skentzos and Lebarr.

The win secured the Terriers a spot in the semi-finals on Sunday morning. The Terriers battled hard in the semi-finals but fell to the undefeated Whitby Wildcats 4-2 to be eliminated on Sunday morning. Goals were scored by Skentzos and Tilley, while assists went to Butler and Lynch. Elias Bilissis was named player of the game with a strong checking effort.

The Terriers begin their regular season Tuesday in Newmarket.
