The Orillia Mid Ontario Disposal U13A Terriers hockey team won the Midland Regional Silver Stick tournament this past weekend.

There were 10 teams in the U13A division attempting to win this Regional Silver Stick tournament that earns the winner a spot in the Silver Stick Finals to be held in Sarnia this upcoming January.

Friday afternoon, in Game 1, the U13A Terriers faced Guelph. After a slow first period for both teams, the Terriers found another gear to start the second and defeated Guelph 9-2 with a spirited fast-paced effort.

In Game 2, Friday evening, the Terriers once again started slow, trailing 2-1 after the first period. However, they had another strong second, scoring five times in this period, on their way to a 7-3 victory over Dorchester.

On Saturday evening the Mid Ontario Disposal Terriers, from the Group C division, played their final preliminary game in a cross-over match with Woolwich, who were leading the Group B division. As expected, this game of division leaders was extremely tight with Woolwich prevailing in a 3-2 win over Orillia.

After the three-game preliminary round, the Terriers finished atop Group C which qualified them for the Sunday playoffs.

In the semi-final, Sunday morning, the Terriers faced Group A leader, Owen Sound. There was no slow start for U13A Terriers in this game as they scored four times in the first period on their way to 5-1 victory, advancing themselves into the Final on Sunday afternoon.

In the final the Terriers faced top-seeded Woolwich for a second time. These teams again proved to be evenly matched. Orillia managed the only goal of the first period with a power play marker five minutes into the game.

From there on it was a nail biter with both squads playing excellent tight checking team defence to limit the scoring chances. The second period was scoreless, so the Terriers entered the third still up 1-0. The final period provided more of the same excellent hockey.

With the possibility of one or two mistakes being the difference between victory and defeat, the Terriers continued to hold their composure throughout the crucial third period. The game came right down to the wire with Orillia scoring an empty net goal in the last minute to go up 2-0. However, there was still no time to relax as immediately after this the Terriers had to kill a penalty right down to the final buzzer.

They successfully accomplished the penalty kill, earning a 2-0 victory over Woolwich, the U13A title at the Midland Regional Silver Stick and a berth in the Silver Stick Finals that features the winners of all the Regional Silver Stick tournaments.

Goalie Sam Weaver was named player of the game for his excellent play, recording the shutout of Woolwich.

Over the weekend, goal scorers for the Orillia Mid Ontario Disposal U13A Terriers were Caden Cheslock, Josh May, Casey Raven, Eric Shellswell, Brock McKay, Izzy Cansino, Hudson Inglis, Doug Loucks, Kyson Campbell, John McLeod, Ben Lacroix and Josh Dimmelow.  Assists went to Preston Tryon, Craig Scott, McKay, Cheslock, May, Raven, McLeod, Cansino, Inglis, Loucks, and Lacroix.
