POLL: Are you decking more halls this year?

First, it's toilet paper, then molasses, and now it's Christmas lights!

“I get excited for all holidays, but Christmas is my very favourite,” said Bill Nicholson. Maddie Johnson for Village Media

At the end of November, I put up my Christmas tree (just a few days earlier than normal) and found myself one strand of lights short.

I ventured to a couple of stores, but alas, the shelves of lights were sparse. I wanted one strand of red incandescent mini lights.

Admittedly, I returned home in quite a grump.

I was already mad about the molasses shortage, this put me over the edge. I make gingerbread every year! Can't I get a reserve supply of molasses? I found some. Bought three, then agonized the bulk buying makes me part of the problem.

But enough about molasses. Back to the Christmas lights.

Forgive me for the corny that follows.

I stared at my naked tree with deep dark shadows where Christmas lights were supposed to be shining. On the TV was Netflix's Christmas Chronicles. "The number one rule of Christmas is you better not pout."

The cheesy movie was right.

I returned to the store to buy different lights and finished decorating my tree.

Since then, I've heard from a few local retail employees they've had trouble keeping Christmas decorations on the shelves.

It got me wondering: Are people doing a lot more decorating this year?

We wrote about the Light Up Orillia Lake Country initiative, which encourages local businesses and residents to decorate for the holidays.

Are you adding to your hall-decking routine this year?
