Ben Johnston, 3, was severely injured in a recent tragic accident on the family's farm. Both his feet and parts of his legs were amputated.

The community is rallying around a local family after a tragic recent accident on a family farm in Severn Township.

Benjamin Johnston, 3, suffered severe injuries as a result of the accident, resulting in amputations of both feet and parts of his legs.

To help support Benjamin and his siblings and parents, Skylar Burnett has created a GoFundMe account that has already raised close to $30,000 for the family.

Burnett said the goal of the fundraising effort is to "help assist Benjamin with this extraordinary life ahead including many adjustments for him and his loved ones. His journey to rehabilitation has only just began," she said.

She notes Benjamin’s rehabilitation will include a wheelchair, multiple sets of prosthetics, intensive rehabilitation, living accommodations in Toronto, home adjustments for comfortable living, therapists, trauma counselling, home care and the cost of the services of a rehabilitation centre to get him walking comfortably again.

Burnett noted COVID restrictions have made this "even more difficult due to building capacities, lack of sleeping accommodations and bedside care. Equipment cannot be shared or passed around and must be purchased," she explained.

"Benjamin’s family's goal is to assist Benny into feeling as comfortable and supported during his road to recovery, allowing him to still feel and live as a three-year-old should," said Burnett.

She described the youngster as "full of life, love and laughter." She said he loved being outside on the family's farm.

Benjamin has a twin brother, Jack, and is also a brother to Ronnie and son of Brent and Sarah Johnston.

"On behalf of the Johnston family we would like to extend our appreciation to everyone who has reached out in all forms. We see you and we thank you," notes the fundraising page.

"We would also like to greatly acknowledge the first responders, nurses and doctors that got Benjamin to Sick Kids Hospital so quickly."
