The COVID-19 outbreak on all inpatient units at Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH), declared Dec. 4 in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, continues.
Since beginning to today, the Midland hospital has announced a total of 34 cases related to the outbreak.
Twenty confirmed cases involve staff/credentialed staff cases with 14 total patient cases. Eight of those 14 remain in hospital while five have been sent home to self-isolate. Last week, the hospital confirmed one patient (a woman between the ages of 65 and 79) had died related to the outbreak.
Contact tracing for current patients and staff is being completed through the hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Prevention and Control departments. Contact information for anyone who has been an inpatient (and has now been discharged) or outpatient at the hospital, or who may be considered a high-risk contact of one of these cases, has been provided to public health for community follow-up.
So far this year, the hospital has recorded 19 positive cases involving inpatients, six outpatients (swabbed via the emergency department) and three COVID-related deaths.
