On Sunday, Sept. 26, cyclists will unite for the third annual Tour de T1D, a charity ride in support of Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) Youth Diabetic Clinic.
Organized by RVH’s Dr. Richard Goudie, and his wife Dr. Darlene Newnham, this annual event is held in honour of their son Lukas, who lives with Type 1 diabetes and has received care at the RVH clinic.
“The team at RVH’s Youth Diabetic Clinic has helped our family in so many ways; from providing emotional support to helping navigate through the often unforeseen challenges that come with a chronic disease,” says Dr. Goudie. “Community support will directly impact families navigating a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis - families just like ours.”
The RVH Youth Diabetic Clinic develops opportunities for children, youth and families to connect, receive support and learn about diabetes while supporting their overall wellbeing.
“Tour de T1D shines a light both on the young people who face this chronic disease with such resilience, as well as the specialized care that RVH offers them,” says Pamela Ross, CEO, RVH Foundation. “We are grateful to supporters like Dr. Goudie and his family for their determination in supporting other families who are affected by Type 1 diabetes.”
For a minimum registration donation of $100, cyclists can participate in a scenic 25 km, 50 km or 100 km ride through the picturesque, rolling hills of Horseshoe Valley. This event will be held in observance of all current public health guidelines, with participants departing for their route in designated departure windows, from The Heights Ski and Country Club.
