Midland residents will be able to take their four-legged furry friends for a jaunt at the Little Lake Park dog park this week.
Andy Campbell, executive director of environment & infrastructure, said that section of the park was locked up because staff were waiting for the surface to dry up.
"The dog park was really muddy," he said, talking to MidlandToday. "It's dried up over the weekend a bit so we'll be opening it up this week."
Campbell added park users will, however, have to wait a bit longer to use the washrooms at Little Lake Park.
Policy, he said, indicates that the washrooms be opened up after the weather has warmed up enough and the possibility of overnight freezing is zero to none.
"We can't turn the water on in the washrooms because there's no heat," said Campbell, adding, the washrooms are usually opened up on the May 24 weekend.
This year, however, he said, it could be sooner if the warmer weather continues and there is no snow forecasted.
As for the rest of the amenities at the park, Campbell said, staff usually takes down playground equipment over the winter.
"The trails are open. Nothing is closed at the park," he said, adding, "It only just stopped snowing a couple weeks ago. We still have some of our crew for night shift for snow removal. We slowly take them off because if it happens to snow again."
As spring comes around, Campbell said, staff will begin to reinstall playground equipment.
"It's sunny outside so I understand people want to get outside and enjoy it," he said.
