Local animal shelter creates sweaty way to raise much-needed funds

Despite pandemic, Midland & District Animal Centre has continued helping vulnerable animals in the community

The recent heatwave should have everyone thinking more about the importance of staying cool and hydrated.

And the same is especially true when it comes to our four-legged friends.

To that end, the OSPCA Midland & District Animal Centre is kicking off its Sweat for Pets virtual fundraiser, a cool campaign that inspires people of all ages to set their own personal fitness challenge while raising funds in support of vulnerable animals.

Midland centre manager Megan Rezka said no matter how participants decide to take part, they will have a big impact on vulnerable animals.

“By participating in Sweat for Pets, you’re not only raising critical funds to give animals a second chance, but you’re also doing something good for yourself by getting active and setting personal goals,” Rezka said.

Funds raised during the five-week campaign support life-changing work to give animals in need a second chance and support the OSPCA’s work in communities across Ontario.

Participants can register here and raise funds by encouraging family, friends, neighbours and co-workers to pledge their support to help change the lives of animals in need. They can either run, walk, ride, swim or create their own unique challenge of their own.

As for the Midland Animal Centre, community development coordinator Robin Elliott said the facility remains open by appointment “to assist vulnerable animals in our community and our programs and services.”

Elliott pointed out that these programs and services have remained operational throughout the pandemic.

“Through our limited contact adoption process, we have continued to find loving homes for animals while keeping our community safe,” Elliott said. “We will continue to monitor and follow the advice of Ontario Public Health and the Ontario government.”For more information on our adoption process, click here.
