TAY TOWNSHIP - Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Commissioner Thomas Carrique was among the dignitaries on hand to accept an automated external defibrillator (AED) to be installed on the pride of the OPP Southern Georgian Bay detachment marine unit's fleet.

At a small ceremony held at the Wye Heritage Marina in Tay Township - near Midland - patrol vessel Thomas P. Coffin became the first OPP vessel outfitted with an AED proudly donated by the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund (DMMF) in honour of another fallen officer.

Commissioner Carrique was joined by Perth County OPP Sergeant Patrick Armstrong - Executive Director of the DMMF - and the family of the late Provincial Constable Thomas Coffin along with other members of the Survivors of Law Enforcement (SOLE).

Deputy Commissioner - Field Operations Chris Harkins, Chief Superintendent Central Region Commander Dwight Peer, OPP command staff and members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment witnessed this unique donation to enhance the marine unit's life saving capabilities.

The AED will be mounted aboard the Thomas P. Coffin to serve to the marine and cottage community of the Southern Georgian Bay area. Police remind vessel operators that an essential part our enforcement effort is to save lives and reduce injuries on our waterways while promoting and educating the public about safe boating practices.
