Midland reopening some amenities as provincial restriction lifts

TOWN OF MIDLAND

With the province announcing the lifting of restrictions on outdoor amenities and activities yesterday, the Town of Midland is announcing the following changes in effect as of Saturday, May 22, 2021:

Outdoor Amenities Open: 

  • All outdoor sports facilities and multi-use fields, including: 
    • Baseball diamonds; 
    • Soccer fields; 
    • Frisbee golf locations; 
    • Tennis and pickleball courts; 
    • Basketball courts; and 
    • Skate parks. 
    • Please note that no organized games are allowed. 
  • All picnic sites and picnic tables in park and recreation areas. All users of the amenities listed above must adhere to social distancing guidelines unless they are in the same household. Park bathroom facilities will remain closed.

Outdoor Amenities Currently Open

  • Off-leash dog park; 
  • Park benches; and 
  • Playgrounds 
    • Please note park benches and playground equipment are not sanitized.

Harbour Services

  • Recreational boating is permitted as of Saturday, May 22, 2021. Boaters must ensure that if a group of persons use the boat/watercraft, that all members of that group are part of the same household, or one other person from outside that household who lives alone or is a care giver for any member of the household. 
  • Boaters may launch their boats using the Pete Pettersen Boat Launch, however parking at the boat launch is for Midland residents only, and with a valid parking pass, which can be obtained for free at the Midland Harbour Office. Failure to comply could result in a parking ticket of $80 and having your vehicle towed at your own expense. 
  • Please note that only one launch is available at this time and there may be significant lineups and delays.

Gatherings 

  • Organized events and/or social gatherings of up to 5 people from different households is now permitted.

The following remains in effect under the current Stay-at-Home order from the province:

Essential Services – No Impacts 

  • Policing, Fire and Emergency Services, and Water/Wastewater service are not impacted by these orders.

Appointment-only Services - Municipal Office 

  • The Municipal Office will continue to offer limited services by appointment-only. For a full list of services available please visit Midland.ca/COVID-19
  • Transit cards may be purchased or re-loaded at the North Simcoe Sports & Recreation Centre without an appointment.

Gatherings, Events and Retail 

  • Outdoor gatherings and events of more than 5 people is prohibited unless all parties are from the same household or one other person from outside that household lives alone or is a caregiver to a member of that household. 
  • All retail stores permitted to operate must limit the number of people in their store to 25 per cent capacity.
