A $15,000 donation from the Town of Midland to Community Reach of North Simcoe will aid in purchasing an accessible vehicle for the non-profit's Transportation Linking Communities (TLC) program.
Community Reach operates the TLC program for North Simcoe residents as the town does not currently provide any ongoing funding for this program. The decision will be finalized at this week's council meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with a closed session.
The TLC program is available to residents of North Simcoe, who are over the age of 18, to provide transportation within North Simcoe for medical, legal, counselling, volunteering, recreational, social and other basic needs.
The program extends travel to residents within Simcoe County for medical specialists and legal needs as well as access to medical specialists outside of the county.
The TLC program operates separately and independently from the Accessible Transit program within Midland.
This decision follows a deputation made by Cathy Greer, executive director of Community Reach, at a recent council meeting. She has made similar requests to the other three municipalities in the area, securing funds from Tiny Township.
Cathy Tait, general manager of Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce, will make a presentation to council during its committee of the whole session the same evening.
The deputation will talk about the chamber's strategy moving forward, as indicated by a survey conducted by the agency. The chamber has a new business information centre, where staff will guide visitors and house information displays.
Also part of this Wednesday's meeting agenda is staff report on town hall closure for the next holiday season and 2022.
The report proposes that the municipal building be closed to the public at the end of the day on Dec. 23, 2021 through to Jan. 3, 2022.
The open session for the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and can be watched online and via Rogers TV.
